Can You Have Club Lloyds and Lloyds Premier at the Same Time? What the October 2026 Terms Changed

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Until this autumn, the answer was a flat no. Lloyds Bank‘s personal banking terms said you could have one Lloyds Premier account and “cannot also hold a Club Lloyds account at the same time”.

The new terms, dated 4 October 2026, drop that line. The Premier section now says only: “You can have a maximum of one Lloyds Premier account.” The Club Lloyds section still allows one account in your sole name and one in joint names, with no mention of Premier.

So on the wording of the terms, you can now hold both. This guide sets out what that is worth in pounds, what it costs, and the two points the terms leave unclear.

What changed in the terms

The old restriction sat in the Lloyds Premier section of the personal banking terms. Forum users quoted it in April 2025, and the forum user who spotted the change says it was still there in the December 2025 version: one Premier account, and no Club Lloyds account alongside it.

A MoneySavingExpert forum user spotted on 10 October that the October 2026 terms no longer contain the Club Lloyds clause. We checked both current versions of the terms, for Lloyds Bank plc accounts and for accounts provided by Bank of Scotland plc. Each is dated 4 October 2026 and neither repeats the restriction.

Rule Previous terms Terms dated 4 October 2026
Lloyds Premier accounts per person One One
Club Lloyds alongside Premier Not allowed No restriction stated
Club Lloyds accounts per person One sole, one joint One sole, one joint
Club Lloyds monthly fee £5, waived with £2,000 paid in £5, waived with £2,000 paid in

We could not find any announcement of the change from Lloyds, and its product pages say nothing either way. The terms are the contract, though, and the October version is the one that now applies.

Club Lloyds and Lloyds Premier side by side

Lloyds Premier is the bank’s top everyday account. It includes the Club Lloyds perks plus extras, so the question is what a second, separate Club Lloyds account adds on top.

Feature Club Lloyds Lloyds Premier
Monthly fee £5, refunded in months you pay in £2,000 or more £15, refunded each month you qualify
Eligibility 18+, UK resident, subject to status Pay in £5,000 a month, or hold £100,000 in qualifying Lloyds savings or investments
Interest on £1 to £3,999.99 0.75% AER 1.50% AER
Interest on £4,000 to £5,000 3.00% AER 3.00% AER
Interest condition Two different direct debits a month Two different direct debits a month
Debit card cashback Not included 1% on most purchases, up to £10 a month
Lifestyle Benefit One a year One a year
Other extras Club Lloyds savings, mortgage discount, no debit card fees abroad All of Club Lloyds plus Bupa digital GP subscription, financial coaching, 24/7 Premier support

Interest is variable and paid monthly. Nothing is paid on balances above £5,000 in either account. Rates are from Lloyds’ current account rates page as at October 2026.

What holding both is worth: worked numbers

The main gain from a second account is a second interest allowance. Each account pays its tiered rate on up to £5,000, as long as two direct debits leave that account each month.

Our figures below use the AER on a balance held for a full year. Real interest will be slightly lower, because the 3.00% tier is 2.96% gross and balances move.

Item, per year Premier only Premier plus Club Lloyds (£2,000 paid into Club each month) Premier plus Club Lloyds (fee not waived)
Interest on £5,000 in Premier About £90 About £90 About £90
Interest on £5,000 in Club Lloyds £0 About £60 About £60
Club Lloyds fees £0 £0 £60
Premier cashback (maximum) £120 £120 £120
Net gain from adding Club Lloyds n/a About £60, plus a possible second Lifestyle Benefit About £0, plus a possible second Lifestyle Benefit

The interest works like this. On Club Lloyds, 0.75% on £3,999.99 is £30 and 3.00% on the remaining £1,000 is £30, so about £60. On Premier, 1.50% on £3,999.99 is £60, plus the same £30, so about £90.

The bigger prize is the Lifestyle Benefit. Lloyds values its options, such as six cinema tickets or a year of Disney+, at over £133 a year. Whether you can actually claim one on each account is the first catch below.

The catches

1. The Lifestyle Benefit may be one per person, not one per account

The Club Lloyds terms say “Only one Lifestyle Benefit can be chosen for each account”. That reads as one per account.

The separate Lloyds Premier Lifestyle Benefits terms (May 2026 version) are less generous. Condition 13 gives one benefit per account for each 12 months, but condition 22 says: “There is a maximum of one Lifestyle Benefit per year.” Neither document says how the two rules interact when one person holds both accounts.

Ask Lloyds before you count on a second benefit. If the app lets you pick one on each account, keep a screenshot of the confirmation.

2. You need two sets of direct debits and two pay-ins

Interest needs two different direct debits from each account every month, so four in total across the two. Quarterly direct debits and standing orders do not count.

The Club Lloyds fee is only waived if £2,000 goes into that account in the calendar month. Premier needs £5,000 a month, unless you qualify through £100,000 of savings or investments with Lloyds.

Lloyds’ Club Lloyds page says transfers in count towards the £2,000, and that you can move the money out once it has arrived. The terms do not say whether money moved from your own Premier account counts towards Premier’s own £5,000. If you plan to pay your salary into Premier and then move £2,000 across, the Club side looks fine on Lloyds’ wording; the Premier side depends on what lands in Premier from outside.

3. The switching bonus does not apply to upgrades

Lloyds is paying £200 to people who switch to a qualifying account using the Current Account Switch Service by 9 December 2026. Changing an existing Lloyds account to Club Lloyds does not qualify, and nor does anyone who has had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switching offer since 1 January 2023.

4. Both accounts share one FSCS limit

Club Lloyds and Premier accounts with sort codes starting 30 or 77 are both Lloyds Bank plc. Money across them counts towards a single Financial Services Compensation Scheme limit, not two.

Accounts with a sort code starting 11 are provided by Bank of Scotland plc, which has its own limit. We explain how that split works in our guide to Halifax moving to Lloyds.

5. Lloyds can review eligibility

The terms say Lloyds regularly reviews accounts and will tell you if you no longer meet the criteria. The terms promise at least two months’ written notice before Lloyds acts on that. A rule that was quietly dropped could also be quietly put back in a future version of the terms.

If you are a Halifax customer

The change matters most to people tidying up accounts before the Halifax brand is retired. The forum user who spotted it was downgrading two Halifax Reward accounts and found Club Lloyds offered as an upgrade, despite already holding Premier.

If you hold Halifax Reward and Lloyds Premier, moving a Reward account to Club Lloyds now gives you a Lifestyle Benefit and a second interest allowance. Remember that a Halifax account kept on its original sort code stays with Bank of Scotland plc.

How to add Club Lloyds alongside Premier

  1. Log in to the Lloyds app or online banking and pick a Classic account to change. Lloyds’ upgrade page says you keep your sort code, account number and arranged overdraft.
  2. Choose Club Lloyds from the list of options. If it does not appear, Lloyds may not yet have updated its systems for your account; call Lloyds rather than closing anything.
  3. Set up two different monthly direct debits from the new Club Lloyds account.
  4. Arrange at least £2,000 a month into it, for example a standing order from another account in time to arrive before 5pm on the last working day of the month.
  5. Choose your Lifestyle Benefit in the app. It starts 30 days after the account opens.

Our verdict

For most Premier customers, a second account adds about £60 a year in interest, and it only makes sense if you can meet the £2,000 pay-in without effort. The case gets much stronger if Lloyds honours a second Lifestyle Benefit.

Check that point with Lloyds first, set up the direct debits, and review it in a year. If the second benefit is refused, a Club Lloyds account you cannot keep fee-free is not worth holding.

FAQ

Can you have Club Lloyds and Lloyds Premier at the same time?

Yes, on the current terms. The personal banking terms dated 4 October 2026 removed the rule that Premier customers could not also hold a Club Lloyds account.

How many Club Lloyds accounts can I have?

One in your sole name and one in joint names. No more than two people can hold a joint Club Lloyds account.

Do I get two Lifestyle Benefits if I hold both?

The terms are unclear. Club Lloyds allows one benefit per account, but the Premier Lifestyle Benefits terms say there is a maximum of one benefit per year. Confirm with Lloyds before relying on it.

How much do I need to pay in to avoid the Club Lloyds fee?

£2,000 in a calendar month. Money arriving after 5pm on the last working day of the month may not count, and refunds may not count.

What is the difference between Club Lloyds and Lloyds Premier?

Premier needs £5,000 a month paid in or £100,000 with Lloyds. It pays higher interest on the first £3,999.99, adds 1% debit card cashback up to £10 a month and includes a Bupa digital GP subscription.

Can I get the £200 switching bonus by upgrading?

No. The offer needs a new account and a full switch from another bank using the Current Account Switch Service by 9 December 2026.

Is my money protected across both accounts?

Yes, but if both accounts are Lloyds Bank plc, one FSCS limit covers the total. Sort codes starting 11 are Bank of Scotland plc and are covered separately.
